Role Overview
We are looking for:
- Solvay Materials is looking for a highly-motivated engineer or scientist to lead technology programs targeted at delivering materials solutions for e-motor applications. The ideal candidate will have a high level of technical expertise in the design and analysis of motors for electric vehicles (EV’s), and a track record of leading high-visibility research and innovation (R&I) projects. Good knowledge of high-performance polymers and polymer processing (extrusion, injection molding, and compounding) is a plus. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional and geographically-dispersed teams, and effective communication of technical concepts both internally and with customers
- The Application Development Labs (ADL) organization within Solvay Materials R&I drives growth by empowering our frontline commercial teams and the R&I Product Development organization. ADL’s mission is to develop solutions for our customers by creating a collaborative environment around dedicated application competencies, such as prototyping & testing, advanced melt processing, and virtual engineering. The goal of the ADL Electrification Global Initiative and the E-motor Application Development Team is to accelerate collaborative innovation on a global scale, enhancing the end-to-end customer experience and delivering high-performance materials solutions that are essential to the electrification revolution.
We count on you for:
- Provide holistic and strategic technology leadership over the development of electrical traction motor applications for high-performance polymers, compounds, and composites.
- Drive an enhanced end-to-end customer experience, from identification of new development opportunities, to application testing and prototyping, to commercialization of new applications.
- Define technology roadmaps for new products and solutions for the e-motor market.
- Coordinate with regional and global application development teams to implement and leverage strategic testing capabilities for e-motor applications. Accelerate product innovation and customer technical support by facilitating the generation of key application data.
- Lead efforts to develop and employ critical prototyping and processing capabilities for e-motor applications.
- Manage and support critical R&I programs and product development efforts for e-motor applications, ensuring successful execution of the electrification innovation strategy.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership in regionally-diverse and cross-functional teams. Collaborate closely with R&I scientists, application engineers, technical support engineers, market managers, and sales professionals to track progress and deliver on goals for technology programs focused on key e-motor components like magnet wires and slot insulation.
- Support market managers in conducting market segmentation, analysis, and competitor positioning according to key technical parameters and pricing.
- Partner with technical support engineers to extract and analyze the voice of the customer, and to build a technical understanding of OEM material selections. Support sales activities by providing customer-facing teams with data, insights, and technical case studies.
- Engage regularly in technical presentations and direct dialogue with key customers.

You will bring:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer/Plastics Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong technical expertise in analysis, design and development of e-motors for electric vehicles
- Sound understanding of polymer materials and components for electrical traction motor technology
- Experience leading high-visibility R&I programs from concept to commercialization in a corporate setting.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and lead technical developments in a global, cross-functional context, outside of formal reporting structures.
- Experience developing applications for high-performance polymers and delivering innovative materials technology solutions for customers is a plus.
- Basic understanding of polymer processing technologies like injection molding, extrusion, coating operations, etc.
